Taxila
An ancient city in Pakistan known for its Buddhist archaeological sites and museums. It’s located about 35 km from Islamabad and is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

• Entry Tickets: Museum + sites charge nominal fees (locals vs foreigners differ).
• Clothing: Light, breathable clothes + walking shoes.
• Best Time to Visit: October–March (cooler weather).
• Guides: Local guides are available at the museum.
• Camera: Allowed in most areas, but restrictions may apply inside the museum.
Departure (8:00 AM)
- Start from Islamabad/Rawalpindi.
- Drive to Taxila (approx. 45 mins – 1 hour via GT Road or M-1 Motorway).
🏞️ Morning (9:00 AM – 12:30 PM)
1. Taxila Museum
- See ancient Gandhara sculptures and Buddhist artifacts.
- Allow 1–1.5 hours.
2. Sirkap Ruins
- Visit the Greek-influenced archaeological site from Indo-Greek times.
- Located ~2 km from the museum.
3. Julian Monastery (Jaulian)
- Ancient Buddhist monastery on a hill with preserved stupas and relics.
- Short drive + mild uphill walk (30 min).
🍽️ Lunch (12:30 PM – 1:30 PM)
- Eat at a local restaurant or bring a packed lunch.
- Some options near the museum or on GT Road.
🕝 Afternoon (1:30 PM – 4:30 PM)
4. Mohra Moradu
- Peaceful monastery ruins with meditation cells and stupas.
5. Dharmarajika Stupa
- One of the oldest Buddhist stupas in the region.
- Built by Emperor Ashoka.
Optional (Time Permitting):
- Bhir Mound (oldest part of ancient Taxila).
- SirSukh Ruins (serene, quiet, less-visited).
🚗 Return to Islamabad (4:30–5:30 PM)

Day 1
- Follow the 1-day itinerary.
- Stay at a guesthouse/hotel in Taxila or Wah Cantt (e.g. Wah Garden Hotel).
- Visit sites missed on Day 1.
- Explore nearby sites like:
- Khanpur Dam (30 mins from Taxila – boating or picnic).
- Wah Gardens – historical Mughal garden.
- Return via scenic Haripur route if desired.
