Batura Glacier Trek

Batura Glacier is situated in Upper Hunza (Gojal), Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, flowing from west to east beneath the imposing Batura and Passu massifs. With a length of around 57 km (35 mi), it ranks among the longest glaciers outside the polar regions.

The glacier's lower sections resemble a grey sea of rocks and gravelly moraine, dotted with summer villages, grazing livestock (sheep, goats, yaks), and bordered by roses and juniper trees. Mean ice thickness stands at approximately 150 m, with the lower parts holding most of the glacier’s mass. The local freezing level is around 4200 m, with the glacier’s upper reaches being the coldest.
